What is Sexual Assault?
Sexual assault is any unwanted sexual contact, including childhood sexual abuse, rape, attempted rape, incest,听
exhibitionism, voyeurism, obscene phone calls, fondling, stalking and sexual harassment.听

What is Interpersonal Violence?
Interpersonal violence includes physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threat听
of actions that a reasonable person in similar circumstances and with similar identities would find
intimidating, frightening, terrorizing or threatening.听

Sexual Assault Facts

  • Alcohol is the most common 鈥渄ate rape鈥 drug.
  • Sexual assault is the least reported violent crime, with estimated reporting rates at 28-40 percent.
  • Rape victims are 3 times more likely to suffer depression, 13 times more likely to abuse alcohol and听26 times more likely to abuse drugs.
  • Only about 2 percent of sexual assault accusations reported to police are false. This is the same rate听of false reporting as other types of violent crimes.
