Trauma could be the result of a deeply distressing or disturbing event that may overwhelm an individual’s ability to cope. Trauma is a normal human response to an abormal experience.

Trauma can cause your brain to remain in a state of hypervigilance (survival mode), suppressing your memory and impulse control and trapping you in a constant state of strong emotional reactivity.

It is possible to heal from trauma. There are various forms of trauma treatment that can assist a trauma survivor in regaining coping skills and reduce distressing symptoms.
