The front of the the CdTe device is important for a two main reasons. First, the light passes through these layers prior to reaching the absorber, so minimizing parasitic reflection and absorption are important for high efficiency devices. Second, the band alignment between the TCO, emitter, and absorber can limit the device performance. At PVIC, we are investigating a number of materials to improve both of these aspects. In addition we are studying how the materials interact during deposition and subsequent processing to understand and overcome limitations.
