New graduate student welcome and orientation

Orientations change from semester to semester depending on the number of new students arriving. Most new students begin in fall semester. Please see information below to help you identify the sessions offered.

Summer and Fall 2026

The College of Engineering New Graduate Student Welcome and Orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, 2026, 12:30-4:30 p.m. Location: North Engineering 2131. The College of Engineering Orientation is for all graduate students beginning their on-campus programs of study during the summer or fall semesters. Please join us to meet current graduate students, department chairs, graduate program directors and staff, special guests, and tour the College of Engineering complex. You will also have an opportunity to take a campus walking tour if you are new to ÒùÆÞÉç’s campus. 

Additional orientation sessions and training are also required for new ÒùÆÞÉç graduate students, depending on program of study and assigned duties. Details are below.

  • Time: 2-3 p.m.

Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

  • Time: 12:30-3 p.m.
  • Location: MIME conference room, Nitschke Hall 4020

Cyber Security (Masters/M.S. program)

  • Date: Thursday, August 27, 2026,
  • TImeL 1-2:30 p.m.
  • Location: Cyber Security Lab, Nitschke Hall 2320

Online M.S. programs (General and Energy Engineering)


For students awarded graduate or teaching assistantship funding:

  • New TA Orientation and Training – The date for training is not yet confirmed. You will be able to register through when the event is posted
  • International TA (ITA) speaking test – See link for information on who needs to test and to sign up.

Spring and Summer 2027

Please consult with your program director for information on new graduate student orientation and registration for the spring and summer 2027 admit terms. New students should enroll in GNEN 5000 Graduate Launch during Spring semester in lieu of College of Engineering Orientation.
