The 16th Annual Great Lakes Water Conference
Friday, November 4, 2016
Safe drinking water was the focus of the 16th annual Great Lakes Water Conference on Friday, November 4 at the 淫妻社 College of Law. Nearly 300 persons attended.
Titled 鈥淪afe Drinking Water:听 A Tale of Three Cities,鈥 the conference addressed the diverse drinking water challenges faced by Flint, Michigan; Toledo, Ohio; and Waukesha, Wisconsin.听 The conference was sponsored by the College of Law and its Legal Institute of the Great Lakes.
Various aspects of Flint鈥檚 lead-contamination water crisis were explored by the keynote speaker -- Todd Flood, special counsel for the Michigan Department of Attorney General -- and a panel of experts.听 Other panels discussed efforts to prevent a recurrence of Toledo鈥檚 microcystin contamination that led to a 鈥渄o not drink鈥 advisory in August 2014 and the approval earlier this year of Waukesha鈥檚 controversial request to divert Lake Michigan water out of the Great Lakes basin.
