Clinical Mental Health Counseling Certificate

Individuals interested in completing the coursework necessary to receive 淫妻社鈥檚 graduate certificate for licensure as an LPC by the Ohio CSWMFT Licensure Board are advised to review the following documents and email Dr. Leslie Neyland-Brown, counselor education program director.

Requirements for licensure and/or advanced practice certification eligibility vary from state to state. Please reference the Professional Licensure Information page for state details. For students who wish to practice in a state other than Ohio, please contact the licensure board in that state.

CMHC Certificate Plan of Study

Any current MA in school counseling student or graduate of a CACREP accredited School counseling program who would like to apply for licensure as an LPC by the Ohio CSWMFT Board may apply to the Graduate Certificate Program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. The graduate certificate in Clinical Mental Health Counseling will provide students with the necessary coursework to seek licensure in the state of Ohio. All students will be required to complete a 600-hour internship in addition to the required clinical courses.

Clinical Mental Health Counseling Courses:

COUN 5010 Professional Orientation

COUN 6240 Diagnosis and Mental Health (Current version of DSM)

COUN 5600 Psychopathology and Personality Assessment

COUN 6200 Advanced Clinical Skills

COUN 6940 Counseling Internship

Coursework completed prior to 2016 would need to be reviewed. Additional courses may be required at the discretion of the program. For more information, contact Dr. Leslie Neyland-Brown, counselor education program director.

The state licensure board is responsible for granting professional licensure, not the counselor education program. Application Instructions

Individuals apply to the certificate program through the College of Graduate Studies. Students initiate the regular application process and the select, 鈥済raduate certificates鈥 when prompted to do so.听To apply, students must have completed a CACREP-accredited counseling master鈥檚 degree in a different concentration (e.g., School Counseling). Students are required to submit all transcripts from post-secondary learning (undergraduate, graduate), three letters of recommendation, and a personal statement.
